Singing Ceremony of a new MoC between SNSF and JSPS at STS Forum 2024

Kyoto, October 7, 2024 – In the spirit of strengthening scientific collaboration between Switzerland and Japan, Dr. Angelika Kalt, Director of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), and Mr. Tsuyoshi Sugino, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), met at the annual Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum in Kyoto. They signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), setting the stage for the upcoming call for proposals for Joint Research Projects (JRPs) between the two countries.

The signing was followed by a productive discussion between Dr. Kalt and Mr. Sugino, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing scientific research and creating opportunities for Swiss and Japanese researchers to collaborate on innovative projects. Dr. Kalt also underlined the importance of international partnerships, observing that working across continents enhances synergies between diverse perspectives and new learnings.

The partnership between SNSF and JSPS has a long history, beginning with the Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology signed on July 10, 2007, between the Swiss Federal Council and the Government of Japan. Since then, various joint initiatives have been launched, including the most recent joint call for proposals in April 2022, which resulted in the selection of ten projects.

Stay tuned for the announcement on the next call!
